Gumdrop Barrette

I've recently started my journey with ballet again. The new studio I'm going to is putting on the Nutcracker this winter. I haven't seen the Nutcracker in about 6 years so I jumped at the chance to make it into a date night. I was thinking about what I wanted to wear. I typically go for headbands but thought to maybe try a barrette for my hair. To make it Nutcracker themed I thought about incorporate gumdrops.

Supplies:

  • Clay

  • Cookie cutter

  • French Barrette

  • Hot Glue + Hot Glue Gun

  • Felt

  • Scissors

  • Glitter

  • Mod Podge

  • Oven

  • Baking Trey

  • Knife

  • Needle

  • Thread

  • Dremel or Sandpaper

Steps:

  1. Roll out the clay, I used a pasta roller but you can use any long round cylinder type item.

  2. Cut them out using the a cookie cutter. You can free hand it or use a paper template as well.

  3. I cut the bottom off to make it flat.

  4. Bake it in the oven following your clay's instructions. You could also use air dry clay.

  5. Once it's cooled down use a Dremel or sand paper to sand the edges down to make them smooth.

  6. Coat of Mod Podge and add the glitter.

  7. While the gum drops are drying, cut the felt to the same dimensions as the barrette.

  8. Sew the felt onto the barrette, you could also glue the felt as well.

  9. Glue the Gum Drops onto the felt.

  10. Enjoy!
