Anniversary Dinner

We decided to stay in for our anniversary dinner since both sets of parents took us out dinner. Matt decided he wanted to make steak au poivre, which is his favorite meal! This receipe is from one of his parent’s cookbooks.

Ingredients:

4 New York Strip Steaks

1 – 2 tablespoons cracked whole black pepper

¼ teaspoon salt

1 shallot or 2 green onions, chopped

¼ cup butter

¼ cup cognac

¼ cup whipping cream 2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard

Steps:

  1. Sprinkle both sides of the steak with the pepper and salt.

  2. Cook steaks on the grill (we like ours medium rare so we did it for about 10 minutes).

  3. In a pan cook the shallot and butter until tender.

  4. In a sauce pan heat the cognac till it simmers.

  5. Put the steaks in the pan

  6. Stir cream and mustard into the cognac. Light the cognac on fire and pour the sauce over the steaks.

  7. Transfer the steaks to a plate and enjoy your French dish!
